NEW YORK -- San Francisco Giants reliever Guillermo Mota has been given a 100-game suspension after testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug.

Major League Baseball announced the penalty Monday.

The 38-year-old right-hander drew a 50-game suspension after the 2006 season for a performance-enhancing substance violation.

Mota was 0-1 with a 5.06 ERA in nine games for the Giants this year. This is his 14th season in the majors.

The commissioner's office said Mota tested positive for Clenbuterol.

WASHINGTON -- Cole Hamels admits it: He plunked rookie phenom Bryce Harper on purpose.

"I was trying to hit him," the Philadelphia lefty said. "I'm not going to deny it."

That startling bit of honesty came after Hamels nailed the Washington teen with a fastball in the small of the back his first time up during the Phillies' 9-3 win Sunday night. The candid remark is also certain to cost Hamels a suspension from Major League Baseball.

Harper came up with two outs in the first inning and Hamels promptly drilled the 19-year-old.

Why, exactly?

"That's something I grew up watching, that's kind of what happened. So I'm just trying to continue the old baseball because I think some people are kind of getting away from it. I remember when I was a rookie the strike zone was really, really small and you didn't say anything because that's the way baseball is," Hamels said.

"But I think unfortunately the league's protecting certain players and making it not that old-school, prestigious way of baseball," he said.

In other words, Hamels said, "It's just, 'Welcome to the big leagues.' "

Harper quickly evened the score with Hamels. After taking third on a single, Harper broke for the plate when Hamels made a pickoff throw to first. Harper stole home, sliding in safely for the first swipe of his eight-game big league career.

"I think he kind of did that for me," Hamels said.

Harper brushed off Hamels' comments on the purpose pitch.

"Hamels threw a great game tonight," he said.

In the third inning, Washington starter Jordan Zimmermann hit Hamels in the left leg with one out and a runner on first when the Phillies pitcher squared to bunt. Home plate umpire Andy Fletcher warned both dugouts.

LAS VEGAS -- Floyd Mayweather Jr., known as "Money," is in the money yet again with the largest contract guarantee for one fight in boxing history.

Mayweather -- the cover subject of the new "Money issue" of ESPN the Magazine -- will earn at least $32 million for his junior middleweight title challenge against Miguel Cotto on Saturday night (HBO PPV, 9 ET, $59.95) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

The $32 million figure is on Mayweather's bout agreement, which was filed with the Nevada State Athletic Commission on Friday, according to executive director Keith Kizer.

According to Kizer, the previous largest guarantee in Nevada -- where most of the biggest money fights have taken place -- was the $30 million Mike Tyson was guaranteed for the infamous ear-bite heavyweight championship rematch with Evander Holyfield in 1997.

"It's the biggest guarantee ever in the history of the sport," said Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer, who said his company was responsible for guaranteeing the money. "Nobody ever had a guarantee bigger. Floyd is in a league of his own. I think that this shows it again."

Mayweather stands to earn many millions more because he also will earn significant money on the profits from the pay-per-view, which is expected to sell well in excess of 1 million units.

Schaefer said the fight is tracking better than any previous Mayweather fight except for his 2007 fight with Oscar De La Hoya, which sold nearly 2.5 million subscriptions and set the record.

In his previous two fights, Mayweather was guaranteed $25 million for his bout against Victor Ortiz in September and $22.5 million for his fight with Shane Mosley in May 2010.

"This is just a testament to his star power," said Leonard Ellerbe, Mayweather's closest adviser. "Floyd Mayweather is a one-man walking conglomerate. Of course, this is exciting. Over the last 12 months he is the highest-paid athlete in sports."

Cotto is guaranteed a career-best $8 million but also stands to earn millions more because of what he will earn from the pay-per-view upside.

Subway stations in New York City will receive Wi-Fi-based Internet services over the next five years, Boingo said Thursday.

Boingo will manage and operate the access points in conjunction with Transit Wireless, the companies said, eventually serving New York's more than 1.6 billion subway riders.

Boingo promised one-click access to the hotspots, which, unfortunately, will not be accessible by the train once it enters the tunnel. Loitering passengers, however, will be able to tap into the Boingo network of hotspots, accessible by roaming partners including Skype, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon.

Once completed, Boingo Wi-Fi services will be available at stations throughout Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Queens.

"Our alliance with Transit Wireless is another milestone for Boingo in our ongoing effort to expand our managed and operated footprint and provide added value to our customers – especially those in New York City," said Colby Goff, senior vice president of strategy and business development for Boingo Wireless, in a statement. "We look forward to providing New Yorkers, our customers and our roaming partners with the reliable connectivity they crave, whether at street level or on the subway platform."

Accessing Wi-Fi via the subway has been a priority overseas, with London's Underground signing a contract with Virgin to install acces points at 80 Tube stations in time for the Olympics. Access will be free until after the Games, when the network will move to a pay-as-you-go system.

In the U.S., however, placing Wi-Fi service in trains has been slow going. In the Bay Area, for example, Wi-Fi access has been largely replaced by 3G cellular antennas in stations and tunnels, reflecting the shift from laptops to smartphones to access the Internet.

In New York, the Metropolitan Transit Authority awarded Transit Wireless a contract in 2010 to outfit all 277 subway stations with Wi-Fi. In March 2011, MTA launched a trial, managed by Transit Wireless, of five subway stations along the 14th Street corridor. These include: 14th and Broadway, 14th and Sixth Avenue, 14th and Eighth Avenue, 14th and Third Avenue, and 14th and First Avenue.

New York's subway system already has Internet access of sorts; in 2011, Transit Wireless installed wireless service at six stations: the 23rd St/8th Ave. station (A, C, E lines); the 14th St./8th Ave. station (A, C, E, L); the 14th St./7th Ave. station (1, 2, 3) and the 14th St./6th Ave. station (F, L, M). The two stations serving the "L" line are considered to be separate stations. As of now, however, only AT&T and T-Mobile customers can tap into the small Transit Wireless network.

Proposals have also been filed to place Wi-Fi on the Long Island Railroad (LIRR) and other commuter trains, but so far, nothing has happened.

We asked a couple of private investigators who can spot a cheater like it’s their job — because it is — for telltale signs that a woman is cheating on you.

Short of walking in on your wife or girlfriend doing unspeakable things with another dude, there’s no foolproof way to know if she’s cheating on you. But there are clues — thing is, you probably don’t notice any of them.

But we know two guys who do — in fact, it’s their job. Between them, Christopher Paoletti, president of Infidelity Investigations LLC, and Tony DeLorenzo, co-author of The 28 Tell-Tale Signs of a Cheating Spouse, they have about 45 years of experience hunting down cheaters. So we asked them to tell us what sort of behavior is a tip of that a woman might be cheating on you.

1. She doesn’t want foreplay anymore.

Quickies here and there are great, but if she’s always eager to get started, something is up. After all, few women can really get into sex without foreplay. So a woman who consistently just wants to cut to the chase probably means one thing: “She just wants to get sex over with,” DeLorenzo says. Well … sex with you, anyway.

2. She tells you even more than usual about her day …

If you were cheating, you might be even more vague than usual about your day-to-day schedule. Well, women tend to take the opposite approach: They try to cover up their tracks by sharing even more information than normal. “She’ll tell you lots of details about her day so you won’t wonder what she’s been up to and get suspicious,” Paoletti says. Of course, she’s leaving certain things out.

3. … while rifling through her bag.

When he was working on his second book, Warning Signs, DeLorenzo researched how body language can tip you off to a cheater. What he found: If she puts her hands in her pockets, touches her face, or pokes around in her purse for something, it’s a dead giveaway that she’s pulling one over on you. “They’re all signs of nervousness,” he says.

4. She stops texting as much.

At first you may not even notice when she starts to lay off the Blackberry — but when you do, it may be time to worry. “Women who text a lot don’t just suddenly stop,” Paoletti explains. The more likely scenario: Her thumbs are still getting plenty of exercise, but not when you’re around since she doesn’t want you to ask who’s on the receiving end of all those texts.

5. You never feel as though she’s nagging you.

A woman who doesn’t mind raised toilet seats and has no issue with prominently displayed Star Wars paraphernalia? Sounds like a keeper. But if those things used to bother her and don’t anymore, it may be because she no longer has any intention of keeping you. “When she stops nagging, it means she doesn’t care about the relationship anymore,” DeLorenzo says. So, uh … enjoy it while it lasts?

Although Junior Seau was never listed on an NFL injury report as having had a concussion, those close to him say he admitted to having experienced multiple head injuries.

Seau died of a gunshot wound to the chest Wednesday, and his death was ruled a suicide by the San Diego County medical examiner's office on Thursday. No conclusive medical connection has been made between head injuries and suicide, but Boston University's Center for the Study of Traumatic Encephalopathy has asked to study Seau's brain, Sports Illustrated reported on Thursday.

The center studied the brain of former NFL player Dave Duerson, who died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest last year and asked that his brain be studied. BU concluded that Duerson suffered from degenerative disease of the brain from repeated head trauma, which can lead to depression.

When reached by ESPN.com, Gina Digravio, manager of media relations at Boston University Medical Center, said the center never discusses what brains it is studying or what brains it is interested in studying.

Sports Illustrated clarified later Thursday that BU did not say that it had asked to study Seau's brain, specifically, but that the center attempts to examine the brains of all athletes who have died after taking part in contact sports.

Gina Seau said her ex-husband did suffer concussions during his nearly 20-year NFL career.

"Of course he had. He always bounced back and kept on playing," she said in a phone interview. "He's a warrior. That didn't stop him. I don't know what football player hasn't. It's not ballet. It's part of the game."

Gina Seau said she didn't know if the effects of concussions contributed to Seau's death.

"We have no clues whatsoever. We're as stunned and shocked as anyone else. We're horribly saddened. We miss him and we'll always love him," she said.

Taylor Twellman, a soccer analyst for ESPN and former Major League Soccer star, was a neighbor of Seau's in Oceanside, Calif. He said Thursday in an interview with ESPN's "SportsCenter" that he told Seau one time that he had suffered a concussion playing soccer and was experiencing bad headaches. Twellman said Seau admitted he also suffered from headaches from multiple concussions playing football.

Twellman, who has become an advocate for athletes with brain trauma, said he later tried to reach out to Seau to tell him he should seek help, but Seau never responded.

Police say they did not find a suicide note at the scene of Seau's death, and it is not clear if he indicated that he wanted his brain to be studied.
